Supporting Human Well-Being in a Classroom Setting Through Interior Design: The Effects of Classroom Design on Dyslexic Students Learning

The classroom environment is a vital part of children’s learning and success. Every person learns in a different way, and educational environments need to be adaptable to different learning styles. In many cases, the current design of grade school classrooms focuses on one specific learning type and does not support other learning types. Students with learning disabilities, including those with dyslexia encounter additional struggles in the classroom. Many students who are experiencing dyslexia continue to struggle in the current design of classroom environments despite the additional technology and literacy assistance they receive. We need to start designing grade school learning environments that support everyone’s needs, especially students who are experiencing dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities as there is a large percentage of individuals in the world experiencing this.
